Mint State.,High-relief left-facing portrait of the Swiss-American biologist and geologist, here honored on a very handsome medal of his homeland. His name and vital dates around, and signed by the sculptor below the bust. On the reverse, within a laurel wreath, the legend VIRO / INGENIO, LABORE, / SCIENTIA / PRAESTANTISSIMO. A great (and much rarer) companion to the United States Mint Medal PE-2. Very appealing reflective chocolate/mahogany patina with a few minor spots on the obverse. Also included is the original fitted wood and fabric presentation case, slightly worn, complete, but coming apart and in need of repair.
