1887 International Medical Congress Medal. Bronze. 76 mm. By Charles E. Barber. Musante GW-1038, Baker F-378. Rarity-6. About Uncirculated.,Mahogany-brown fields are lightened in places from an old cleaning, with the fields showing microscopic hairlines not evident on the devices. Unlisted in Julian, but very likely a U.S. Mint medal, as it is unlikely that a medal of this size and quality -- and also engraved by the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint -- could have been produced anywhere else in this country at that time. Substantial in size, and impressively styled, the obverse portrait is after the famous Houdon Bust, which is considered the finest likeness of Washington ever produced.
