1807 Capped Bust Right Half Eagle. BD-6. Rarity-4+. Large Reverse Stars. AU-58 (PCGS).;Subtle shades of powder blue accent the peripheries of this pleasing Bust Right example, accompanying varying tints of bronze and merlot hues that encircle the devices. Satiny luster survives within the protected regions and is most abundant throughout the reverse. The strike is overall bold, allowing just the faintest softness to the rightmost clouds arcing between the eagles wings. Libertys profile is graced by a touch of friction, but the surfaces are left otherwise smooth and without distractions. A handsome, near-Mint representative of this transitional issue. <p>The 1807 mintage of half eagles is among the more complex issues to navigate, as a total of 8 known die pairs exist involving both the Capped Bust Right and Capped Bust Left design types. The BD-6 marriage is among the more readily available varieties of the issue, though still no more than 100 examples are thought to remain. Easily identified by the recutting of the date and a pair of errant die lines on the reverse, a Choice AU example like the present piece is a truly significant opportunity.
