1921-D Mercury Dime. MS-66+ FB (PCGS). CAC.;This gorgeous and essentially untouched specimen exhibits a complexion of silver pearlescence and pale champagne notions, accented by bronze and olive hues scattered about. The luster is coarse and matte-like, delivering a wonderfully frosty texture across all regions. An impassioned strike has rendered the devices as sharp and as intricate as designer Adolph Alexander Weinman would have intended.<p>Struck to a quantity of just over 1 million coins, the 1921-D Mercury dime boast the second lowest mintage of the series behind only the famous 1916-D. It remains an overall scarce issue in all grades, though this rarity is considerably amplified once striking characteristics are taken into consideration. Examples with fully delineated bands on the reverse are extremely scarce in Gem Mint State, and coins approaching Superb preservation are virtually non existent. PCGS notes six coins certified at the current MS-66+ FB level, though this undoubtedly represents a number of resubmissions. The present coin is bested by just a single piece at PCGS, certified within arms reach at MS-67 FB.
