1926-D Lincoln Cent. MS-65+ RD (PCGS).;A rich medley of tangerine and apricot hues paints the complexion of this lovely premium Gem from the Denver Mint. The surfaces are richly lustrous and matte-like, accompanied by faint evidence of die polishing surrounding the reverse motifs. Handsomely pronounced, just a trivial softness can be gleaned from the final few letters of TRUST on the obverse. A few trivial marks are present under scrutiny, but all lie beyond the focal regions and fail to distract. This pieces offers a wonderful blend of strong eye appeal and technical merit that ranks among the finest of the issue.
The 1926-D is relatively common overall but scarce in higher Mint State grades. Strike and surface quality are the two compromising factors that make this issue so conditionally rare, and less than 200 coins are thought to survive in Gem condition and above from an original mintage of 28 million coins. The present coin represents the only coin graded by PCGS at the MS-65+ RD level, and is bested by just 4 coins in MS-66 RD.
