1870-CC Liberty Seated Quarter. Briggs 1-A, the only known dies. Fine-15 (PCGS).;A truly delightful example of this Carson City issue that ranks as the second rarest in the entire Liberty Seated quarter series. The surfaces are handsomely patinated in dove gray and pewter tones, accented by a faint golden glimmer visible under optimal lighting. The definition is overall bold and uniform, with a remarkable intricacy to the eagles feathers and strong denticles throughout. Scrutiny fails to reveal even a single noteworthy blemish, as the complexion is left fully composed and without distractions even under a glass.<p>Just 8,340 quarters were struck in the inaugural year of the Carson City Mint, and the 1870-CC quarter sits only behind the legendary 1873-CC Without Arrows in rarity. Virtually the entire issue was placed into circulation regionally, with most coins being worn down to grades of Fine and lower. Unfortunately, many of these pieces have been subject to environmental damage, cleaning and other mishandlings, stressing the immense desirability of an attractive and wholesome example like the present offering.
