(t) CHINA. Gold Presentation Dollar, Year 10 (1921). Tientsin Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-62.

Variety with reeded edge and with legend at bottom of reverse. Already hailing from a series that is exceedingly popular and important, and one that simply continues to grow in desirability, this off-metal presentation striking in gold places the present specimen in extremely RARIFIED air with very few rivals. Quite accordingly, just three have been observed finer in the PCGS census, attesting to its paucity within the marketplace and wondrously difficult nature. Further, the fields abound in enchanting eye appeal, with a strong, glistening luster across both sides and exquisite sharpness of strike. The brilliant golden-yellow aspect to the color palette also dazzles and impresses, making this an assured tantalizing opportunity for the most advanced of collectors within the Republic Chinese series or even world gold RARITIES.
An incredibly popular and desirable type believed to have been a pattern issue, it now appears that these were, in fact, more medallic in nature, and meant to be given out upon the opening of the Peking Union Medical College (PUMC), the facade of which is displayed upon the reverse. Initially designed with a blank field below the pavilion for the intended recipients name to be engraved, the reverse was altered slightly to contain the characters 紀念幣 between two rosettes, as the engraving proved difficult on the initial batch.
