AUSTRALIA. Sovereign, 1922-M. Melbourne Mint. George V. PCGS MS-62.Fr-39; S-3999; KM-29. A hint of striking weakness on St. George, otherwise well defined details are enveloped in a rich golden glow. Some light scattered ticks account for the assigned grade, but do not detract. Another very rare survivor of wholesale melting in the 1930s and 1940s, despite a mintage of 608,000, the 1922-M Sovereign is very rare and a key date in any and all states of preservation. To emphasize the point, to date, PCGS has graded four in MS-62, and just a dozen finer. This is a very important opportunity for the specialist in Australian gold, one that should not be overlooked.
