MYSIA. Pergamon. Kingdom of Pergamon. Eumenes I, 263-241 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.10 gms), Pergamon Mint, ca. 255/0-241 B.C. NGC Ch EF, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 3/5. Fine Style, Brushed.SNG BN-1610-16; Westermark Group IVA, obv. die XXXI. Obverse: Laureate head of Philetairos right; Reverse: Athena seated left on throne, resting elbow upon shield to right and crowning dynastic name to left; transverse spear in background, ivy leaf to outer left, A to inner left, bow to right. A striking issue of the Pergamene Kingdom, displaying a robust and expressive portrait of the Attalid founder. The impressive reverse lacks nothing, with a well-defined Athena seated amongst a variety of symbols and the fully legible name of Philetairos. Perfectly struck with strong metal quality and accents of underlying luster.
