BRITISH WEST INDIES. Currency Board. 1 Dollar, 1957. P-Unlisted. Front Printers Design. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. The West Indies Federation was an internally autonomous state of 10 islands and British Guiana that were British possessions in the Caribbean. In 1956 the British Caribbean Federation act was passed and the official date of formation, January 1958, was set by an order in council proclaimed in 1957. It lasted until May of 1962. This particular Printers Design from Bradbury Wilkinson seems to have been submitted in 1957 using the exact same design of the British Caribbean Territories issue with exception to West Indies replacing British Caribbean Territories on top and printed in a smaller size. Ultimately it was decided that the issuer remained to be the same and the notes continued to be issued by the British Caribbean Territories Currency Board, and it remained a British Caribbean Territories issue until the Eastern Caribbean States issue of 1965. This front printers design features a contrived serial number, a cursive "SIGNATURE" for each of the signatures and a single punch hole cancellation.
