BRITISH HONDURAS. Government of British Honduras. 5 Dollars, 1.5.1924. P-16s. Specimen. PMG About Uncirculated 50. The classic notes of the British Commonwealth, such as the one here, have always been popular with advanced collectors. The problem is that the available supply (in any format) of notes is never enough to satisfy collector demand. This is especially the case with popular countries, such as British Honduras, which in the 1970s changed its name to Belize.pThe 1924 series was the third series of banknotes printed specifically for the Central American colony and was produced by Thomas de la Rue. It utilized the same basic design as the previous series, but updated the colors to give the notes a more modern look while making it more difficult to counterfeit the notes. The $5 was the third denomination in the series and was issued with two different dates. A handful of specimens, including the present example, were also produced for archival purposes. This example, which features some printers annotations, shows light handling but no distracting hard folds and good eye-appeal for the technical grade. A wonderful and not to be missed opportunity for the Commonwealth specialist, as this is the sole example of this specimen in the PMG population report. PMG comments "Printers Annotations."p
