CHINA. Silver Dollar Pattern, CD (1907). Tientsin Mint. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, Unc Details. L&M-20; K-212 = KM; WS-0025; Wenchao-89 (rarity: ★★). A VERY RARE pattern issue that presents vastly distinct iconography that is a departure from most within the imperial dragon series. Namely, the very well-formed rosettes ( that are actually flowers rather than simple stellate creations ) and a cross-hatched outer border enveloping the entirety of the characters side. The lack of wear is obvious, and the toning that has begun to take hold immediately jumps out at the viewer. Some minor cleaning is noted, but this does little, if anything , to distract the gaze of all who look upon it. A tremendous opportunity for a difficult and immensely popular issue. This Dollar is a representative of the first set of "Tai Ch ing Ti Kuo" silver coinage. These issues--struck in limited quantities with a familiar obverse design based upon the imperial copper issues beginning in 1906--were placed into circulation and, in less than a year, were replaced by the 1908 issues.
