(t) CHINA. Taiwan. 3.6 Candareens (5 Cents), ND (1893-94). Uncertain Mint, likely near Foochow. Kuang-hsu (Guangxu). PCGS Genuine--Mount Removed, AU Details. L&M-329; K-135; KM-Y-246; WS-1006. Undoubtedly a KEY within the Taiwanese series, this alluring minor retains great overall detail and sports a fairly dark hue, its only real blemish stemming from the noted mount removal. Nevertheless, this aspect is easily overlooked on account of the staggering RARITY that if offers. Over the past two decades, just three other examples were recorded to have crossed the auction block--the Norman Jacobs specimen, a raw VF, selling in 2008; the Åke Lindén specimen, a PCGS VF-35, selling for a hammer of $24,000 in 2014; and a third specimen, a PCGS VF Details (Scratched), selling for a total of $9,600 in early 2023.
