1935 United States Assay Commission Medal. By John R. Sinnock. JK AC-80. Rarity-5. Bronze. Edge Incuse CLARENCE H. LOW. AU-53 (NGC).51 mm. With light handling to deeply patinated olive-copper surfaces. A few scattered spots on the reverse are also noted for accuracy. The obverse die of this issue is signed J.R. SINNOCK. F. A.D. VIVUM. MXMXXXIV, which translates as "J.R. Sinnock, Engraved From Life 1934." Obviously President Roosevelt sat for Sinnock in person rather than the engraver having to create this likeness through the usual photographs. The reverse is similar to that used for Mint Director Nellie Tayloe Rosss medal and, while it is generally believed that she is the model for the seated figure, there is no proof of this. We have only handled four examples of JK AC-80 over the last 15 years, including that offered here.Round collector tag with attribution notation included.
