1776 (ca. 1867) Jefferson Bust / Libertas Americana Muling. By John Adams Bolen. Musante JAB M-5. Brass. MS-65 (PCGS).25 mm. Gorgeous brassy-olive surfaces with prooflike reflective and iridescent apricot undertones in the fields. The design elements are satiny in texture and sharply defined in all but one or two isolated areas. Struck from the Jefferson die in its earliest observed die state, with a fine die line passing through the letter O in JEFFERSON, allowing us sufficient reason to unhesitatingly declare this a Bolen original. A set in silver, copper, brass and white metal was offered in the 1882 Bushnell sale, as lot 1850. This is presumably the brass specimen offered therein, and appears to unique in this composition. From the Martin Logies Collection.
