A. / 40TH MAS. / REGT. / LOWELL.<p>Born in August 1825, in Salisbury (or nearby Amebury), Massachusetts to James Lurvey and Susan Jewett, James Thomas Lurvey enlisted in Lowell, Massachusetts on August 22, 1862, as a captain. He was a practicing dentist at the time, and was commissioned into A Company of the Massachusetts 40th Infantry. He was honorably discharged on May 30, 1863, following a fall into a ditch at West Point, Virginia.<p>Lurvey was first married to Rossilla Judkins in January 1845, but remarried to Cynthia Jewett in 1878, five years after the death of his first wife. Lurvey died February 25, 1904, in Haverhill, Massachusetts at the age of 78.<p>This lot includes a large research file.
