Civil War Identification Tag. Indiana--Plymouth. Battles. Maier-Stahl 4C. Jacob F. Lewis, Company I, 151st Regiment, Indiana Volunteers. White Metal. Extremely Fine. With Major General Joseph Hooker suspension pin. 74 mm x 31 mm overall. Obverse inscribed ENLISTED / FEB 14TH / 1865 / AT / PLYMOUTH, IND. Reverse inscribed JACOB F. LEWIS / CO. I / 151ST IND / VOL. IND / MARSHALL, CO, I N D. This steel and pewter-gray tag hangs from a nickel-silver suspension pin that is inscribed MAJ. GEN. JOS. HOOKER. / (bust of General Hooker) / 1863. These suspension pins are quite desirable and Maier-Stahl notes, "In fact, these suspension pins are much rarer than the discs themselves, and the large number of those offered for sale were dug." That offered here is missing the pin on the back, and has some PVC residue around the edges on both sides, but is otherwise well preserved and presents nicely. From Early American History Auctions, Inc.s sale of August 2010, lot 415. Lot tag included.
