1889 Indian Cent--Triple Struck, Second and Third Strikes Off Center--AU Details--Improperly Cleaned (NGC). The second and third strikes closely overlap, they are more than 70% off center to 10 oclock, and located just past 12 oclock relative to the obverse of the first impression. The digits 89 in the date are present from the second and third strikes, other design elements from those impressions sharp where present. Regarding the primary strike, it includes a crisp date and sharp detail to all design elements save for those obliterated by the later strikes. Lightly hairlining and curiously vivid colors of mint orange, medium rose, salmon-pink and powder blue explain the NGC qualifier, but the eye appeal is quite strong even without considering the error. When the multiple strikes are considered, this is a visually appealing and highly desirable coin for the specialist.
