PERU. 8 Escudos, 1767-LM JM. Lima Mint. Charles III. NGC AU-58. KM-70; Onza-681 ("muy rara"). Choice quality for this always-sought issue, presenting a bold, even strike over both sides and seldom matched vibrancy due in large part to luminous orange-gold tone that clings to the designs. A slight bulge from a buckling die in the right obverse field also seems worthy of mention as are a few small laminations in the reverse field. The laminations, actually quite trivial here, are commonplace for the issue, and are often quite severe, frequently impeding the central designs. While three Mint State examples have been certified, none of these have appeared publicly, making this AU-58 the finest certified example thus far presented to the market. From the Oro del Nuevo Mundo Collection.
