PERU. 8 Escudos, 1855-LIMA MB. Lima Mint. NGC MS-62. KM-148.5; Onza-2101. One-year sub-type with REPUB abbreviation in legend. A luminous example of this elusive issue with surfaces that have been carefully preserved through the ages, showing no marks of noteworthiness over either side. The sharpness of the strike also exceeds most, with the Standing Liberty design approaching full completion and, within the reverse coat-of-arms motif, some typical softness appearing in the wreath that tops the focal tri-segmented shield design. Tied with the Millennia Collection specimen for the finest graded of the issue, with the primary difference between the two being that this coin is virtually tone-free, whereas the Millennia coin has patches of reddish tone over both sides.
