Uniface (1858) Pattern Indian Cent Reverse Die Trial. Judd-A1858-1, Pollock-3161. Unique. White Metal. MS-64 (PCGS). Die trial of the laurel wreath reverse adopted for use on the regular-issue 1859 Indian cent; cardboard or laid paper clings to the flip-side of the piece. Deep steel gray with lively luster and areas of bright silver frost. Sharply struck, though an oblong section has flaked away at the lower right border and is loose in the PCGS holder. This is the only example known and it serves as the plate coin for the type on page 298 of the 10th Edition of the Judd pattern coin reference. From the Samuel J. Berngard Collection.
