1794 S-68 R5 Head of 1795 PCGS graded XF40. Glossy medium brown and light olive with darker olive and steel brown toning on the shoulder. There are traces of crud or very shallow verdigris in protected places around the shoulder plus a few more specks of similar stuff on the reverse, but the remainder of the planchet is smooth. The surfaces look choice to the unaided eye but a glass reveals very fine vertical hairline scratches in the field before the portrait. The only other notable mark is a thin planchet lamination at the dentils over the Y in LIBERTY (as struck). LDS, Breen state V, with a very strong bisecting die crack across the obverse. An impressive die state for a very rare variety. Graded VF35 net VF20 and tied for CC#5 in the Noyes census, his photo #32990. Bland says VF30 and tied for CC#3 in his census. Our grade is VF30 sharpness net VF25. Comes with a very nice provenance. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer: 1 in 45, 1 in 50, 1 in 58. PCGS #35687. <DOTLEADER> Estimated Value $15,000 - UP <I><BR>Ex Paramount International Coin Corp. 11/1973:825-Dr. Robert A. Schuman 3/1976-Del Bland 3/25/1984-Dr. George E. Ewing, Jr. 6/1994-Jon A.
