1794 S-66 R5+ PCGS graded VG10. Attractive glossy medium brown and light chocolate. The surfaces are smooth although there are a couple small pits or planchet chips on the reverse, notably under the T in UNITED and in the wreath left of the O in ONE. Otherwise there are just a few minor contact marks including a light rim bruise left of the lower curls and another off the end of the pole. The date is bold and the legends are strong. LDS, Breen state IV, with all the die cracks described by Breen. The "Split Pole" feature caused by a die crack is quite strong. A nice example of this rare variety in spite of the minor imperfections. Called VG10 net VG7 and tied for CC#12 in the Noyes census, his photo #26604. Bland says VG8 and tied for CC#7. Our grade is VG10+ sharpness net VG8. Comes with a nice provenance. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 3 finer: 2 in 30, 1 in 35.
