1841-C Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. AU-58 (NGC). Soft green-gold patina is displayed to the viewer from both sides of this near-Mint survivor. Traces of original, softly frosted luster are readily evident in the protected areas and around the peripheral devices. Hints of mint brilliance are also evident at direct light angles in the fields. Well struck, uncommonly so for a product of the Charlotte Mint, with no individually mentionable abrasions on either side. Simply put, the 1841-C is a very scarce quarter eagle in all grades with only 10,281 pieces produced. Survivors probably number only 125-175 coins, and Doug Winter (Gold Coins of the Charlotte Mint: 1838-1861) also states that the 1841-C is the rarest Charlotte Mint quarter eagle in high grades after only the 1842-C.
