1839-C Classic Head Quarter Eagle. McCloskey-3. AU-50 (PCGS). Once thought to be an overdate, it is now thought that the date was struck from a defective punch. A significant coin for both collectors of the Classic series as well as Charlotte type collectors, the 39-C is one of only two C-mint Classic Head quarter eagles. The surfaces are peppered with numerous small abrasions and a diagonal die crack extends downward through star 10 to the T of LIBERTY. Another curving die crack is seen on the reverse from the upper left corner of the shield through the eagles beak. Soft olive-gold color overlays each side.
