1851-D Gold Dollar. EF-45 (PCGS). This is an uncommonly well detailed coin in a lightly circulated Dahlonega Mint gold dollar, the reverse particularly noteworthy for the universally sharp detail that it retains. Splashes of medium rose iridescence enliven otherwise deep gold patina. The surfaces are pleasingly smooth in hand with faint remnants of original luster. The 1851-D is one of the more readily obtainable gold dollars from this challenging Southern coinage facility, the present example ideal for inclusion in a mintmarked type set.
