1924 United States Assay Commission Medal. Bronze. 51 mm. By George T. Morgan. JK AC-68a. Rarity-4. Specimen-63 (PCGS). Predominantly rose-bronze patina to both sides, a few speckles of flint gray are evident in the center of the obverse, left and right borders on that side, and at the word ASSAY on the reverse. Fine grain sandblast surfaces reveal no marks of note with all design elements sharply rendered. The Julian-Keusch reference on Assay Commission medals does not note a mintage figure for this issue, but the Dreyfuss sale does point out that this date is "sufficiently rare as to not be illustrated in the Pessolano-Filos book." Including the Keusch and Norweb specimens, this is only the third example of AC-68 that we have handled in recent memory. Seemingly scarcer than the Rarity-4 rating might suggest, this is a significant offering for the advanced Assay Commission enthusiast.
