Original pewter gray surfaces allow ready appreciation of the subtle matte-textured finish. Boldly defined with only trivial rub and wispy handling marks explaining the Choice About Uncirculated grade.The Philadelphia Mint delivered 25 silver Assay Commission medals on February 2, 1916, as well as an additional two examples in this composition one week later on February 9. JK AC-60 is a rare issue, and this is only the second specimen that we have handled in the last dozen or so years. The first is the Keusch Collection specimen in our (Stacks) November 2008 sale, the edge of that piece inscribed to John Skelton Williams. The present example, although not as well preserved as the Choice Uncirculated Keusch specimen, is even more desirable due to the WOODROW WILSON edge inscription, indicating that this is the actual medal for the 1916 Commission presented to the president.
