Circa 1885 Washington Monument Dedication medal. Musante GW-1003, Baker-N-322, var., HK-145a. Rarity-7. Copper, Bronzed. SP-66 (PCGS).44.8 mm. Another very impressive medal struck on a thick bronzed flan, 6.0 mm at the rims. Deep chocolate and mahogany bronze surfaces are gently marbled in tone, but boldly reflective through the fields in sharp contrast to the lustrous devices. A scarcely seen medal in any form, but rare bronzed. This composition was not listed in the Rulau-Fuld revision, though it was known to Hibler and Kappen.Ex William Spohn Baker Collection, to the Historical Society of Pennsylvania by bequest, November 15, 1897.
