MARC ANTONY. AR Denarius (3.63 gms), Patrae(?) Mint, 32-31 B.C. NGC Ch AU, Strike: 5/5 Surface: 4/5.Cr-544/14; CRI-349; Syd-1216. Legionary type. Obverse: Praetorian galley right; Reverse: Aquila right between two signa; LEG-II across lower field. An absolutely tremendous piece, this legionary denarius will assuredly captivate the viewer. From a series which tends to suffer from poor metal, off center strikes, and unfortunate graffiti, this example, outside of some minor off centering on the reverse, is about as perfect as one will find. The surfaces are problem free and lustrous, evidence of circulation is at an extreme minimum, and the eye appeal is off the charts. Truly worthy of intense focus and consideration for those seeking a premium legionary type.
