Fairfield, Illinois. Reapers Bank. ND (18xx). Uncut Sheet $1-$2-$3-$5. Very Fine.(IL-270 G2a-G4a-G6a-G8a all SENC) ABNC. This is easily one of the rarest Illinois obsolete banks we have ever handled. The Haxby reference states that the Reapers Bank operated from 1859 to around 1865 when it closed. All four denominations are listed as SENC with descriptions provided only from contemporary banking reports. Agricultural vignettes are displayed on each note of this $1-$2-$3-$5 sheet. The $3 example displays three small period $1 gold pieces at bottom center. Each note features large red printed protectors. We can only trace a single offering of a low grade $3 note over at least the last 10 years. Some light horizontal folds are seen along with some heavier handling in the selvage at left. A tear just enters into the left end of the $1 note. An important sheet with four types no doubt missing from most collections.
