Albion Illinois. Exchange Bank. November 5, 1862. Uncut Pair $1.25-$2.50. About Uncirculated.(IL-10 G2a-G4a) An interesting odd-denomination uncut pair from this Albion bank. This $1.25-$2.50 pair was produced by the American Bank Note Company. The $1.25 note displays a small eagle with wings spread at top center and a young womans portrait at bottom right. The auditors seal is at bottom left. The $2.50 is seen with a small train at top center and the portrait of a girl at bottom left. The auditors seal is at bottom right. Both notes have a red denominational protector at bottom center. We can only track sales of well circulated $1.25 examples which realized $1,035 and $1,175. We can find no examples of a $2.50 being sold in at least the last 10 years. The pair is sharply printed with overprint and serial number embossing evident. Some light handling is observed as well as a small nick in the right edge of the selvage that does not affect the notes. A very rare Illinois item with broad appeal.
