1870 Indian Cent. FS-901. Shallow N (a.k.a. Reverse of 1869). MS-65+ RB (PCGS).Far more Red than Brown, this premium quality example exhibits dominant golden-orange color. The obverse is the more sharply struck of the two sides, but both are equally well preserved with a smooth, satin to softly frosted texture. A scarcer issue than even a mintage of 5,275,000 pieces might imply, many circulation strike 1870 Indian cents were redeemed and melted by the Mint during the later years of that decade.
