FRANCE. Royal dOr, ND (1290). Philip IV (1285-1314). NGC EF-40.Fr-255; Dupl-207. Called a florin dor a la reine in Friedberg and a petit royal dor Duplessy, this RARE type was struck before the disastrous Flemish war forced the king to debase his coinage. A sharply detailed example, this piece displays complete peripheral legends and remnants of original luster appearing in the fields. A few scattered marks on the obverse are commensurate with the grade. Comparable quality to the last auction sale weve recorded (both are similarly detailed with more marks on this piece and pebbly surfaces on that one), that piece appearing in a May 2017 Jean Vichon Numismatique auction where it brought 13,000 EUR hammer.
