ETHIOPIA. Pattern Mule (1 Werk), EE 1923 (1930). PCGS MS-61 Gold Shield.Gill-S6a (plate coin). Plain edge. EXCEPTIONALLY RARE; one of two known to us. Gill notes that this issue is muled with the obverse of a copper 5 Matonas (KM28) dated EE 1923 (1930) and the reverse of a Ras Tafari silver pattern 1/8 Birr. Gill speculates: "this may have been struck with the intention of being a presentation piece, but is likely just a mint sport." Struck from heavily aged dies with an even appearance, but signs of past handling. Overall an interesting piece sure to excite the specialist.Ex: Classical Numismatic Group Auction 100, October 2015, lot 646.
Ex: Dr. Lawrence A.
