PCGS Currency About New 53 PPQ.This absolutely stunning 1880 $20 Decatur Note is the finest example of this three number type we have had the privilege to offer. This lightly handled note features the engraved signatures of Bruce and Wyman to the lower right of center. Commodore Stephen Decatur, a national hero in the early 19th century, is portrayed at right. A large brown Treasury Seal is at top center with large Roman numeral XX in brown below. Bold blue serial numbers are found to the lower left and top right. The grandiose black back printing features the word SILVER prominently across the center. This example displays premium paper quality with ample margins. The note has the appearance of New through the holder with any grade limiting factors difficult to detect. All of the engraved design elements are boldly inked and presented in vivid detail. This is among the most appealing examples we have ever encountered of the type and a note which should attract vigorous bidding interest.<p><p>Stephen Decaturs remarkable life was regrettably cut short at the age of 41 when he was killed in a duel with rival naval officer James Barron on March 22, 1820.
