1816 Matron Head Cent. N-9. Rarity-3. MS-62 BN (PCGS). CAC.,Deep golden-tan surfaces display olive overtones at the lower obverse and central reverse. Faded red is noted in the reverse legends. The planchet is slightly flawed with a retained lamination and a small fissure, both of which correspond to small areas of deeper patina near 7 oclock on each side. This lovely Mint State cent is sharply struck and highly lustrous, much more so than is suggested by the Noyes images where the coin appears rather dull. The offered coin is vibrant and very attractive. In a 1997 auction appearance, cataloged by Superior, this coin was certified MS-64 BN by NGC, and the insert (636597-008) is included with this lot. Tied with one other coin for CC#4 in the Noyes Census, this is a superb example of the variety. Noyes Die State A/A.,From the Q. David Bowers Collection.
