1814 Classic Head Cent. S-295. Rarity-1. Plain 4. AU-58 BN (PCGS).,This handsome example offers chocolate brown patina with areas of golden tan and navy blue iridescence scattered throughout. Overall glossy and exhibiting just the lightest traces of circulation atop the high points. An old thin mark is visible beside the final A of AMERICA, though this has long sublimated into the overall complexion. The dies are heavily fatigued, with the crack through Libertys lower curls prominent and the reverse denticles fully obscured. Even so, the stars on the obverse display full centrils and the devices remain overall bold. The strong eye appeal of this piece is sure to allure both type collectors and copper specialist alike!<p>Two different die pairings were used to coin the 1814 issue of Classic Head cents, with one obverse utilizing a Crosslet 4 while the other, Sheldon-295, featuring a Plain 4. Though both are plentiful in appreciable condition, the Plain 4 variety is the scarcer of the two and is slightly more elusive approaching Mint State. PCGS has certified just 30 examples finest than the present piece, stressing the elusive and desirable nature of the Sheldon-295 dies.,,
