A private pattern produced, probably at the suggestion of the Mint, possibly on Mint premises. <strong>Obv:</strong> Indian head styled after Longacres small cent design in sunken cartouche of ribbon with 12 curves, faint C (for engraver Chormann) in field below bust. <strong>Rev:</strong> Raised federal-style shield at center surrounded by fine engine-turned scrolling, within a broad scalloped ring, in relief. Beyond the outer curves, a circle with dot at each inward curve of the outer ribbon. Deep steel gray surfaces support bold design elements and plenty of luster and eye appeal.
