Proof-64 (PCGS).,<strong>Obv:</strong> A bust of Liberty faces left, the portrait similar to that adopted for regular issue Liberty Head nickel production in 1883. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is around the border and the date 1881 is below. <strong>Rev:</strong> A wreath of corn, wheat and cotton surrounds the denomination expressed as a Roman numeral III. Charming golden-tinged surfaces are fully struck with a uniformly mirrored finish also imparted by the dies. The now-familiar obverse design by Charles E. Barber was also featured on pattern cents and nickel five-year pieces in 1881.
