T-47. Confederate Currency. 1862 $20. PMG Very Fine 25 Net. Repaired, Previously Mounted. Fantasy Note.No serial number, Plate N. PF-2. There is little agreement as to exactly what T-47 and its T-48 counterpart really are. It is almost unanimously agreed that these were not regularly authorized Treasury Note issues. Some believe the notes were essays or patterns proposed for future issuing. Others theorize that they are some sort of non-governmental issue. In any case these notes have long been sought by collectors as part of a traditional 72 note type set. The $20 here exhibits only moderate wear with some small edge repairs and evidence of old style stamp hinges in the corners. This example displays the "checkered shield" variety displayed on page 350 of the Fricke reference. From The Cleo Collection of Confederate Paper Money.
