(Circa 1861) Dr. Frederick Rose. Bronze. 76 mm. By Anthony C. Paquet. Julian PE-29. MS-65 BN (NGC).;Gorgeous reddish-copper surfaces with a full strike, satiny texture and virtual freedom from even the most trivial blemishes. Although authorized in 1858, the Mint did not begin work on this medal until 1860, and it was not until February 1861 that Paquet was able to complete the reverse die. Mint Director Colonel James Ross Snowden sent a gold example -- presumably the first of the type struck -- to Washington, D.C. on February 15 of that year, to be forwarded to Dr. Rose.;From Heritages sale of the Dr. James G.K.
