1873 Two-Cent Piece. Close 3. Proof-66 RB (PCGS). CAC.;Lovely Gem-quality surfaces exhibit a blend of olive-brown iridescence and original orange-red color. The devices are fully defined with razor sharp detail to even the most intricate design elements. Having gradually fallen into disuse in commercial channels since the end of the Civil War, the two-cent piece passed into history in 1873. This is a Proof-only date with Close 3 specimens, as here, identified as originals from that year and Open 3 examples believed to be restrikes. One of the nicest survivors of the former variety that we have offered in recent years, this premium Red and Brown example is worthy of strong bids.;
