1895-S Morgan Silver Dollar. MS-64 PL (PCGS).;Offered is a lovely Choice example of a low mintage key date Morgan silver dollar. The boldly to sharply defined devices exhibit a soft satin texture that contrasts nicely with mirrored fields. There is a touch of pale rose iridescence to portions of Libertys portrait, but otherwise both sides are brilliant. The uncommonly smooth surfaces and the degree of reflectivity set this coin apart from the vast majority of 1895-S dollar extant.
With only 400,000 coins struck, the 1895-S has one of the lowest mintages among circulation strike Morgan dollars. Most survivors are circulated to one degree or another, attesting to the fact that much of the mintage found its way into commercial channels, probably through distributions from the San Francisco Mint over a long period of time. Prooflike coins of any quality are highly elusive, the present example with its Choice surfaces is rare for its combination of strike and surface preservation. A delight to behold, this coin would serve as a highlight in the finest Morgan dollar set.
