1652 Oak Tree Sixpence. Noe-21, Salmon 2a-B, W-400. Rarity-5. IN on Obverse. AU-50 (PCGS).31.5 grains. A richly original and handsome piece, we note blended antique golden highlights to dominant charcoal and steel gray surfaces. This is an unusually well centered coin for the Oak Tree series, the obverse missing only the outer beading at right, offset by an extra lip of blank planchet beyond the outer beading at left; the reverse is near-perfectly centered with virtually complete outer beading. The legends are fully legible despite minor softness to a few of the letters on the obverse, central motifs sharply struck and crisp in the absence of all but light wear. The planchet is a bit out of round, mostly due to a shallow clip centered on 10 oclock relative to the obverse, very minor planchet crack at 7 oclock relative to the same side. Surfaces are a tad rough, not distractingly so, and they show some good gloss and only a few old, well blended marks. These are the same dies used for the Noe-20 Oak Tree sixpence, here with the previously soft first S in MASATHVSETS recut, albeit backward, irregular in shape, and too large relative to the other letters.PCGS# 898266.
