Undated (ca. 1872) Thomas Jefferson / Andrew Jackson Muling. Dies by John Adams Bolen. Musante JAB K-1. Brass. MS-64 (NGC).25.5 mm. Deep golden-olive brass surfaces are fairly uniform and pleasantly "dirty original," with subtle pastel overtones in the light. One small spot is noted near the rim off Jacksons bust point. One of just two examples in our archives in brass, and one of just four impressions we have seen in any metal across the last 15 years, three of which were in the remarkable E Pluribus Unum offering in our November 2021 sale. The late-state rim cud mentioned in the previous lot had begun to form when this was struck, with a thin crack arcing through the dentils. The number struck is unknown, but it must have been very small. From the Claremont Collection. Earlier ex Q. David Bowers; our sale of the Tim Gabriele Collection, November 2017 Baltimore Auction, lot 263.
