1795 Washington Liberty and Security Halfpenny. Musante GW-48, Baker-31C, W-11000. Copper. Plain Edge. AU-53 (PCGS).27.1 mm. 115.7 grains. Deep brown with pleasant surface gloss and nuances of olive and blue when rotated under light. Though the planchet was too small for the dies, the centering is about as good as it can be with the obverse slightly high to the right and the reverse a little low, without significant losses of detail. Shallowly struck up at the centers, as usual. One small obverse rim nick is noted at the T of WASHINGTON. Called "very rare" by Breen, who cited no examples. We have several of these in our online archives, reaching as far back as December 2005. Most but not all of these are on narrower flans, like this example, with none of the dentils present. From the Richard August Collection.
