GREAT BRITAIN. Admiral Rodney/Rodney Forever Pewter/White Metal Medal. ND (ca. 1781). PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details.Liechty-15 (this medal illustrated); BHM-234; MH-387 (this medal illustrated). Diameter: 38.5mm. Obverse: Uniformed bust of Rodney facing left, perimeter legend above G. B. RODNEY.; Reverse: Two warships in a harbor engaging in battle, one at left billowing smoke, fortress or harbor building at left, perimeter legend above RODNEY FOR EVER. This somewhat crudely executed medal offers pewter-gray color with mottled notes of charcoal on light to moderately worn surfaces. The noted damage is primarily seen as a series of small dimples or indentations on the obverse and reverse, two small casting flaws on the reverse, and the remains of the casting sprue on the obverse. Nonetheless, this offered medal is the only known specimen of the type with an impeccable pedigree as it heralds from the John W. Adams collection and is the plate piece from Milford Haven. This medal realized for $3,055 in our November 2015 sale of the John W. Adams collection. It is unclear whether this medal refers to the 1781 Capture of St. Eustatia or perhaps the 1782 Battle of the Saintes. To view all items from the Skyler Liechty Collection, click here. From the Skyler Liechty Collection.Ex: John W.
