GREAT BRITAIN. Admiral Rodney/Rodney Forever Gilt Bronze Medal. ND (ca. 1781). PCGS VF-20.Liechty-14; BHM-233; Eimer-789; Medina-166; MH-386; S-P/16. Diameter: 33mm. Obverse: Uniformed bust of Rodney facing right, perimeter legend at left and right G. B. RODNEY; Reverse: Two warships engaging in battle, one at right billowing smoke, fortress or harbor building at left, perimeter legend above RODNEY . FOR . EVER. Despite the moderate wear, an attractive example of the type with full gilding on both the obverse and reverse offering enhanced eye appeal.Though the medal is silent on its depicted subject matter, Brown in BHM links this medal with the capture of St. Eustatia. Despite the battle portrayed on the reverse, St. Eustatia was taken without any authorized shots fired; two British ships did fire on a Dutch East India Company frigate - both commanders were reprimanded for a lack of discipline. To view all items from the Skyler Liechty Collection, click here. From the Skyler Liechty Collection.
