COSTA RICA. Banco Internacional de Costa Rica. 20 Colones, 21.10.1918. P-169B. PMG Fine 12.A very challenging type from Costa Rica dating back to 1918 that was printed by the American Bank Note Company. One of just two examples graded at this level in the PMG population report, with two finer. Deceptively scarce in any grade and seldom offered, making this an important opportunity for the Costa Rican specialist. In 1918, Costa Ricas economy was experiencing modest growth driven by coffee exports, despite the challenges posed by the global Spanish flu pandemic, and notes such as this were used while the economy grew slowly but steadily.
